At the time of writing this we continue to face challenging times. As we have emerged from the pandemic, we have entered a period of instability with the war in Ukraine and a cost of living crisis at home.

When I was at school, June was often the month that was crammed full of end-of-term assignments, revision, and exams.

As individuals, we usually have a bias towards ‘now’. But at this time of year that bias changes in an important way and is to do with our length of focus. Our natural bias is to focus on the ‘short term’.

Yes, I know, it is budget time again. Yippee! The older I get, the more I notice that my friends and I seem to take more notice of the full range of topics covered in the Chancellor’s announcements ( not just the price of alcohol, petrol and diesel, but  of course now electricity and gas is front and centre!).

It’s harvest time in the farming calendar. Land management has proven that the timing and order in which crops are harvested makes a great deal of difference to the yield. Some factors are relatively predictable, such as when a crop is likely to be ready. Other factors are very uncertain, like the weather.

With the summer holidays upon us, there is time for reflection and relaxation for some.  For others, it’s a time to maximise work opportunities (especially if you work outdoors) and ‘fix the roof while the sun shines.’

Post-pandemic retirement planning

At the time of writing, it feels as though there is a little bit of light at the end of the pandemic tunnel. The successful role out of vaccinations across the UK is helping to weather the latest storm of infections and ease the pressure on the NHS.
